Green and Red Bar and Cantina

Firstly, this is in a difficult location (I don't mean Bethnal Green generally, I mean that junction with Brick Lane with the big loo outside) but they've done well to make it look fairly inviting and a little bit cool. much much better than the horrible bar that used to be there.

Service was very good and very friendly. The cocktails are truly excellent, and a revelation for someone who thought that tequila had to involve salt, firewater, and a lot of wincing. Food is all very tasty, although some of our party had been there when it opened and suggested that they'd cut-back considerably on the size of the portions. Not necessarily a problem as it was still hefty enough, although this is the type of food that its good to really trough on.

But generally, pretty decent, and certainly a world away from the usual tex-mex nonsense.

the perfect local restaurant. went there most recently with my folks after a drunken birthday night out. despite my shatteringly fragile condition had a really good posh sunday lunch. the people that run it have nailed the right level of (in-)formal friendliness, food/wine is consistently good... service, atmosphere everything 'works' really well.

most recommended (and for those not fortunate to live nearby, worth the trek to E9).

This is a great little local restaurant. Food is up with anything you get in the vietnamese places in Dalston/Hoxton - we had great crab, good spring rolls, and some outstanding spiced bbq pork. can't comment on the pho. very friendly. my only concern is that it always seems to be a bit quiet - we went on a Saturday night and there was only 1 other table in use. I will be most annoyed with my neighbours in Hackney/Vic Park if this place folds through lack of custom.
