Chiswell Street Dining Rooms

Don't judge this book by its cover, as looks are most definitely deceptive... To be avoided, took my wife for lunch today [Friday 16th September 2011], place (after being open for c2months) still smells of paint, which is unpleasant at the best of times. There were only two waiters waiting in the bar area at peak lunch time, therefore running around like headless chickens (literally), so there was quite a gap between ordering and being served. Having ordered, our mains arrived without the sides... the fish cakes were tasteless, even after asking for salt and pepper (all of which took time to arrive). Had to ask waiter to send the food back; the manager was very accomodating by offering us another round of drinks (we opted for olives and nuts as we were so hungry!). Club sandwiches arrived and these were no better, although the ketchup did help... Only ate to fill the hole in my stomach. I would understand if this was a one-off... however, people on either side had the same problem... one group had ordered salmon and meats - only to have their bread arrive after they had finished (complimentary round of champagne) and the other group didn't get their final course as requested.

Recommendation - wait a while before going here until things hopefully settle down... I won't be.

Nizuni

We wondered past Nizuni on the off-chance and managed to get a table (albeit by a drafty front door) on a Friday night - result! The food is of a good standard, decor seems to be very new, staff still finding their feet - literally.

We ordered sushi, the portions were far smaller than i'd anticipated, but tasty none-the-same. The restaurant lacked atmosphere, its a mix between a Wagamama's and a mid-tier Japanese restaurant. The staff seem friendly enough.

Make sure you book in advance. One thing, ensure you check the bill, we were surprised to find several instances of green tea miraculously appearing, once queried these were taken off and our total was brought down to the correct amount. Enjoy.

The Warrington by Gordon Ramsay

We went to the Warrington on Saturday night for a meal, to experience the Ramsay Gastro Pub Experience. On the whole the food was reasonably good, one member of our party (we were 6) received both his starter and main late (chicken arrived instead of duck), the waiter did apologised. The service was a bit hap hazard, decor more of a bland restuarant rather than a true gastro pub. I miss the Thai restaurant that guaranteed service with a smile and good reasonably priced food. The bill was higher than we had anticipated. On the whole, took it on the chin, however, will be a while before I return.
