Chakalaka (Putney)

Had table for 6 there last night.

Starter of Boerewors was basically a small sausage with some bland side (I thought Boerewors were a large round sausage??)

Main was the rump skewers which was not only tasteless, but chunks of meat varied from one large lump down to a peanut size piece of gristle. All covered in a cheap BBQ sauce.

Best bit was that it took about an hour for the mains to come after the starter. It takes 5 mins to charcoal grill a skewer medium rare - what the hell were they doing in the kitchen?!

Advice - stay away from this place.

Pizza Metro (Battersea)

Great friendly service, great authentic pizza, good value for money. Only slight problem is it can get major busy some times as result of its popularity. Def recommend!

Santini

We sat outside on a lovely evening and thought how nice the atmosphere was. Unfortunately that was the only good thing about this restaurant. Food was very expensive and below average. Ordered a £27 steak medium rare and it came well done. Chef could obviously not cook so threw salt at everything. On top of this service was appaling and for 4 people the bill came to £270. Another overpriced resturant in london serving poor quality food with bad service.

Cafe Sol

Went on a monday night recently. I haven't been for a while and have to say it really has gone downhill. Restaurant was 2/3 empty but service was still awful. took about 15 mins to order drinks, starters came at different times etc. Shouldn't take over 2 hours for a meal on a monday night. Had fajitas which were very bland.

to cap it all off we refused to pay service and ended up arguing with waiter, who insisted that it was compulsory on tables of 6 or more. Needless to say didn't up paying it and wont be back in a rush!

The Red Fort

Very overpriced average meal. drinks especially cost a fortune. I ordered a kingfisher beer and it came in a tiny little glass and cost £4. Restaurants at this price have to serve excellent food and it simply was not. They try and woo you with clever dishes like pheasant and rabbit - but they taste spicy and v. ordinary.

The Chutney

Been here a few times now. This is THE best curry house in London. Food fantastic, service excellent, VFM outstanding - esp with toptable 35% off voucher. (agree with takeaway review below to some extent - my delivery was slow and curry arrived half cold - but why get takeaway when you can eat there for such good value!!!)

The Butcher & Grill (Battersea)

Main problem with this place is it is very over priced. 4 of us had a starter each and then a steak, sharing 2 bottles of wine - the bill came to £230! This place is simply not worth that kind of money. Starter were nice but not mind blowing. Steaks were good - but you would expect that at around £20 each (and that doesn't include sides). Worst thing was the service - meal took 3 hours eventually due to poor/slow waiters. I would hate to see how they struggle if the restaurant was full. Summed up when one of the waiters managed to snap the cork in half with our wine and attempted to pour it in our glasses with half of it floating around in the bottle. You can eat much better and cheaper else where in london than this!

No. 5 Cavendish Square

Had enough toptable points to earn us a free 3 course meal here. Restaurant decor is like something out of a gentlemans club. Waiter was ok till he realised our meal was free with toptable, then be became uninterested. My starter of carpaccio of of beef was tasteless. Main of Rack of Lamb was average, as with chocolate mousse dessert. WATCH OUT - they charge extra for all the side dishes that appear with the meal

We managed to spend £50 even without paying for any food! (£30 on a bottle of red, and not too sure what the rest went on) Bill would have been £150 without.

To sum up: Restaurant is very average. It was full of a pompus men with large cigars lying around, and blokes trying to impress blonde bimbo women. This was all emphasised when we walked out of the place and Joanna Guest was filming outside (I assume for men and motors or Nuts TV!). If you are after z class celeb hangout go here. If you are after a decent meal stay away
