Worst service ever!

We were late for 10 minutes for the booking, and we've waited for 5 minutes until we've got seated, another 5 minutes later, the waiter (without any sympathy or apologies) came over to our table and said, 'sorry the kitchen is closed, no food is available, because you are late!'

We could not believe our ears. I have never been to a restaurant that normally the standard practice is to wait for 15 minutes for the guests, even without customer's notice in advance. Plus York and Albany did not warn us that if we were 10-minutes late, no food would be available!

We were starving but had to find another place in the rain. What a nightmare! This is really a bad experience. Do not know why would any restaurant treat customers like this, shame to be a Gorden Ramsay restaurant!

Had my St Valentine's dinner there with my honey this year, it was great! There are not so many Scandinavian restaurants in London, and we even bumped into some one that he's known ages ago and has lost contact for a long time, amazing! He likes the bread there and I like the fish eggs and the dessert...

Black & Blue (Soho)

Had couple of drinks there, did not try the food though. The Bellini is good, and the non-alcohol cocktail is not bad. Nice setting, especially outside with sunshine, would be better if not so many people smoking out there.

Teapod

Tiny but cozy, especially in miserable winter when I had to accompany a friend to find a property nearby, plus I was not well. This little Teapod definitely warmed me up...also I like the lovely tea sets.

St Alban

Very good restaurant, as mentioned by the previous viewers. I enjoyed the pork belly, and the wide mushroom soup. My friend's swordfish was charming too. I like the contemporary deco throughout the dining room, bar, and bathroom. The service is flawless. Good choice!

Hing Loon

Seeing all the postivie reviews here I went there for lunch yesterday. Even according to China Town's standard, this restaurant is awful! The deco. is cheap and running down, e.g. many tables upstairs are supported by paper or card board in order to make them not tilted to another side. The waitress managed to make massive noise through 'tidying up' other tables while we were eating. The food was covered by the starch with strange flavor, and the portion is so small. The last straw - it is not cheap! Awful place!

The Terrace Restaurant

The restaurant has a very good design. Been there at least 4 times, everytime has a significant different experiences. In general, the food is ok, but usually over-priced unless with the offer.

I have never been an Indian food fan, but tonight had a really nice meal there. The Lamb Shank was well-done, and my friends veg. meal was equally impressive. The service is good, and the atmosphere is superb.

Busaba Eathai (Store St)

Been there about two years ago as a new Londoner. Was really impressed by their popularity and wide range of selections of food for lunch. Then I have been to its branch near Soho a few months ago (I've left a review there), and felt okish. So the general impression for Busaba is that a popular causal eating place. If you are looking for some place to celebrate special occasions or for fine dinning, this is not the choice.

The Long Bar

Have met a friend from the LA there. He picked the place as he thought, from the American's point of view, that the best bars are the ones hidden in the nice hotels, plus he has been there several time when he stayed over in London. We did enjoy our drinks, but it was very crowded. (Well, it was before the Credit Crunch era, lots of bankers and blondes there, hehehe) We had a good time there, although not very long before we set off for dinner. Plus I did not pay so no worries about the value, haha!

Been there just for a drink before the meal. The bar is so small and the drinks have been split all over the table. Bless the poor bar tender. Do not know what the food is like, but I am afraid that my friend and I were not very impressed to go there the 2nd time.

Cafe des Amis

It was great for today's lunch! My friend had the steak, well done! (I had a try and sincerely it was one of the best I've ever tried). I had ricotta & ravioli, impressive! I also like the deco and the service, considering we sat just next to the piano!

Will definitely go there again for dinner some time.

New Laughing Buddha

The first Chinese restaurant I tried when I moved to London two years ago. I have been there several times afterwards. The good thing is that you can have a special menu for Chinese people where you can find many 'odd' dishes that foreigners will not dare to try. However, I still think the food is over-priced.

It is too loud! I can hardly talk to my friend when dined there last night. The food was ok - it seems that the Chicken Fajita was very popular. But I do not think this is a place for a high standard meal. It is literally a club/bar.

I do not like burgers, but ventured to try this for its big fame. It turned out to be a disaster. For the first time, I did not bite the second time at the thingy. Could not believe why people would pay £10 for a burned piece of meat stucked between two pieces of tasteless bread...

Navajo Joe

Been here twice just for quick drinks. Friends chose this place as it seemed to be quite lively and arty. The deco inside does make one feels in some South American tropic theme park: very colorful and shining everywhere. This applies to the cocktail and the food as well, although no comments on their tastes.

Read some good reviews about it on this website, so went there with a friend. Maybe I was not very well or maybe I am becoming more and more picky with food, this restaurant does not really live up to my expectataions. Food is so small in portion and not high in quality. Chinese Experience

It is a Taiwanese restuarant, the Chinese name of it is 'Da Jiang Nan Bei': straightforward translation: 'Big River South and North'. It is definitely a mixture of everything, but only one thing stays stable: the awful service. Will never go there again although my British friend thought it was good.

Leon (Ludgate Circus)

Heard about it from my colleagues, and surprised to know that the one near Embankment has been closed. Once waiting for my friend outside the Liverpool st. station, I spotted Leon and stepped in. Eventually we ended up having a good meal there. Can still remember how refreshing the Ruburb smoothie was. A good place for lunch and snacks.

Been there twice. First time was amazing, the second time is okish. It follows my dining experience rule: decreased marginal return; and my principle: never go to a restaurant twice except rare occasions. No need to mention how expensive the food is, typical Japanese, what I can say.

Wahaca (Covent Garden)

The first time been there absolutely made me say 'Wooow', not only because of the exotic food style, and the spice, but also the length of the queue. After being there several times, I can now safely pass the restaurant without an attempt to join the queue.

Before I started my food critic trip, I hardly knew any good Chinese restaurants in London, this one seems like a decent type at that time, so I have been a frequent there for a while. Now I have to say it is a typical China Town restaurant: low quality, high price, bad service, and tourist-oriented 'short-term' business.

Gordon's Wine Bar

Gordon's wine bar has the reputation as 1) the oldest bar in Europe, 2) the most popular bar in London. I have a sense that maybe many people here like the feeling of being crushed or like the smell of sweat, especially in summer! Nevertheless I have to admit that wine is great, and food is good, if I can find a seat sometime that'll be brilliant!

Chez Gerard at the Opera Terrace

Great venue - how many places will allow you to have the view over Covent Garden with a glass roof on? Been there for two colleagues' joint birthday celebration. Could not really remember what I ordered and the quality of the food, this lack of memory of eating experience happened quite rarely and it may due to too much wine I have had there. I did not pay for it as well, but heard it was quite expensive. Anyway, a place for special occasions I guess.

Thai Metro

We ended up in this restaurant by accident. We planned to take the advantages of the special offer in Dim T in Charlotte street, but did not know that we had to book this in advance. It was quite late and I was exhausted, my friend was extremely hungry. We browsed around in the same street and ruled out very expensive choices such as Roka. Did not know what happenened that night, it seemed that every restaurant on that street was full with long waiting list. Somehow we stepped in this one and waited only for 20 minutes. The food was not bad, the place is very tiny and crowded, but I kind of enjoyed with my eyes and stomach half-sleep. But I do not think I will go there again. It is just an accident.

Wagamama (Irving St)

Been there as a fresher to London about 2 years ago. Enjoyed the first time as really could not afford to dine in more posh venues at that time. Been there twice afterwards only to find the food is not always fresh and sometimes you can even tell it is straight out from the Microwave. Most Dim Sum taste like similar to what you can get from the supermarkets in China Town. So never been there again, and will not go there anymore.

Thai Square on the Strand

Went there with colleagues for lunch to celebrate my first few days in the new company. The food is a bit cliche, nothing special for that kind of special price they charge.

National Cafe

Nice view over the Trafalgar Sq. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Can still remember the special Yogurt/Smoothie we had there, yummy. Considering how central this place is, you have to prepared to pay as three times as much you do in other cafe places.

Roka

Food is really eye-catching imbed in the Zen atmosphere. Nevertheless have to say it is a bit pricy considering how small the portions are. For me, the Japan-type simplicitism is a distorted interpretation and imitation of nature.

Belgo Noord

Been here twice with lots of friends (first time with French, second time with international group). The beer is fantastic, and Salad is nice too. The deco really suits the buzzy ambience in the surrounding arty rocky markets.

Pescatori (Mayfair)

After shopping excursion in the Dover Street Market, we were really in a mood to dine in a stylish place, no doubt Pescatori is one of them. Since it was quite early evening, we were the first diners inside, it made us feel so special and romantic.

We ordered seabass and tuna, both were well presented and tasty, but the seabass has some spare bones inside which was out of my expectation, and I had to spit out some bones.

Terrace

Been there several times for drinks. It is good in summer if you manage to get on top of the Terrace area, but normally it is always overcrowded. The service is awful I have to agree.

The taste of food is ok, but considering the idea of 'healthy diet', it is definitely the place for regular visits. Also good value for money.

Cha Cha Moon

Just went there for lunch today with colleagues. I have been here once for dinner and quite enjoyed the light delight dishes. It is typical Taiwan Xiao Chi (equivalent to Hong Kong Dim Sum). The atmosphere is very amiable and cushy: the long benches and sharing tables reminds one of Wagmama or Busaba, which has the upside of being close enough to each other, and the downside of being too crowded. The food is quite decent in terms of choice, flavour, and portion. In general, good value for money, and nice place for friends causal catching-up.

One thing to remember about the service: they do not fill up the tea, as most Chinese restaurants do; it is difficult to catch the eyes of waiters/waitresses.
