Little Italy

Love this restuarant. Have eaten here twice and each time the food was amazing, the service great and a buzzy lively atmosphere. Left the greatly talked about Great Queen Restaurant on Great Queen Street as the menu was dull and uninspiring to come back here and have a great night out !

Expensive but worth it.

Great Queen Street

Quite frankly this was a real disappointment. We had heard great things about the restaurant and having only worked 5 minutes away walked past it everyday. We booked a table nearly 3 weeks in advance as we are leaving the UK for abroad and wanted a good London send off !

When we arrived it was nice and buzzy, we were shown to our table promptly, ordered a bottle of mineral water and the husband started perusing the wine list. Then it all went wrong for us. The Menu.

We knew that the menu is changed on a regular basis and didn't expect pages of choice, but we weren't excited by anything on the menu. The starters and some of the mains were heavily shellfish based, great unless you have a severe allergy to shellfish. So we decided to skip the starters. Next the mains, apart from the dishes for 2 to share, steak pie, fish pie (with prawns) myself and my partner really like to try something different so that we can sample each others food, the other choice was partridge or steak. Opting for the steak and still thinking that would be fine I ordered. The waiter very politely told us that the steak would be cooked medium rare and if that was ok. I stated that I didn't like my steak cooked medium rare and could I have it medium to well done. I was told that no, that wouldn't be possible as the chef wouldn't cook it like that. Hello, I thought I was paying for the meal. And at £20 for a steak can't I eat it like I LIKE it ??? At that point, not liking or being able to eat anything else on the menu, and quite frankly not appreciating the fact that the only thing I do want on the menu won't be cooked to how I like it the husband and I paid up £2.50 for our water and left. We then proceeded to head to Soho to Little Italy where the food was fantastic, the service polite, and my husband had steak which was beautiful, cooked to perfection and done to his choice ! We have eaten at some of the great restaurants in London and this one could be great, maybe is great, just the attitude and menu left a lot to be desired.
