I had read such great reports about this restaurant my husband and I decided to go for our wedding anniversary meal. I rang up a few months before the day and left a message on their answerphone with the date and time I wanted a reservation for. They called me back to say they had no availability that night (so obviously didn't listen to my message) but the man took my reservation for the date I requested. Roll on to the day and when we pitch up to the rather dark, cramped and unatmospheric restaurant they had no record of our reservation. The unhelpful waitress said that if they had it they would have phoned that day to confirm (no mention of this when I spoke to them), that they would try and fit us in but that, quote, "most people were understanding when this happened" which makes me think their reservation system fails frequently. Since we knew of a wonderful tapas restaurant just round the corner called Navarros my husband and I decided that we didn't want to have our anniversary meal somewhere where the staff were lacking in service so we left. I am just glad it was two of us rather than a larger group of friends who were let down.

I have worked less than two minutes walk from this restaurant for years and had never realised it was there until I read the reviews on London-Eating. I went today at lunch for the first time and I will definitely be returning.
There were nine of us in the party and it was a bit cramped on our table in the basement but that is the only minor criticism I have of Cleveland Kitchen.
The food was delicious, the special plus a drink is still £5, a huge pizza and drink is now a massive £6! The wine was perfectly drinkable and a good size glass.
We arrived right as it opened and the place was quickly full. The staff were pleasant and everyone left very happy.
