Byron (Wardour St)

Very impressed - tasty burger, I went for the special; bacon (excelllent,) mature cheese, special sauce on a bun. No complaints best burger by far in Soho (though I do also enjoy Joy's burger on Berwick St around the corner.) Good service - good to see somewhere with 4 or 5 burgers on their menu. Def going back.

Duke of Cambridge (Angel)

Visited the Duke over the weekend for our groups' annual chrimbo meet up/drinks and to be honest was quite disappointed with the food. The dish I ordered was tiny (I had the beef pie with stilton and broccoli) and was really surprised by the size and also that the beef was actually beef mince - it must have been a whole tablespoon of mince contained in the whole dish, with two pieces of broccoli on the side of my plate - for the price I was expecting chunks of! It was tasty though however I felt very underwhelmed by the dish and given it cost in the region of £16 I expected a lot more. Drank some lovely on tap cider. Ambiance was good. Just felt let down by the size of the portions...

Sitaaray

I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed by this place - the portions I felt were a little dry and also quite small - literally one chicken tikka, one kebab, small bowl of dhal, v small chicken curry (2 small pieces of diced chicken) and a spoonfull of sag...) With a couple of glasses of champagne our bill came to £62 - which in my eyes was very expensive given the meal consisted of a number of starters!

The Frontline Club

Just back from a client lunch and was very impressed. Two of us had the Gloucester Old Spot which was fantastic, with a lovely crispy rind on top of mash with beans. Other dish was the Hake and again no complaints. Had two excellent lunches now and really must get back and see this place during the evening.

York & Albany

Visited Thursday lunch time and had a most wonderful lunch, extremely relaxed and enjoyed the whole experience. Food was lovely - I had the Roasted Devon Plaice with sweetcorn and girolle risotto, buttered runner beans - was divine and I was sorely tempted to pick up my plate to lick clean! For desert I had the Elderflower jelly, gooseberry compote, pink Champagne granité, almond macaroon which was light and refreshing given the hot sticky weather outside. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be returning.

Harbour City

China Town on Sunday and rather than visit our usual haunts (Joy King, Imperial, Fu Zhou and London Chinatown) and was very impressed - wonderful dishes, tried several and none disappointed. Def'y heading back.

Locale (East Dulwich)

Arrived late on a Saturday evening with my wife and a friend having not booked... The main room was buzzing, such a great atmosphere - both my wife and I couldn't believe we'd walked past so many times and not been in! After a shortish wait we were taken to our table only to find ourselves in the 'other' / 'overspill' room which only had one other couple - however, we hadn't booked and as mentioned it was late so beggars can't be choosers! Ordered our food/wine - the French waiter was excellent and knowledgable, in a laid back relaxed kind of way. Wife and friend ordered pasta dishes which were fine, I had the steak which was stunning (Apparently steak is half price on a monday and am sorely tempted to go tonight....) a great malbec and just a great evening, good food, unrushed and 10 mins from home!

Next time, will def book and will make sure we're sat in the main restaurant!

Joy King Lau

We've been eating here for the last couple of years and we've always had excellent food, top class service. Having read here about JKL being very good for large groups, my wife and I held her birthday bash here and brought along a number of friends and family. What an afternoon, well catered for, not rushed and the food was divine - as was the price for the amount of food, you almost feel that there's been a mistake when presented with the bill!! Go Try JKL!

Ganapati

Love this place though unfortuatnely I don't visit as much as I should do! Always had good food here and really like the laid back appeal of this place. The chutneys offered at the start are devine (the garlic chutney is to die for) and the Thattukada Lamb is one of the best curries i've eaten (it states Hot, it is!!!)

Smiths of Smithfield

Went yesterday, our annual chrimbo lunch with friends and we're all very pleased with the whole afternoon. Staff were wonderful, even though one of our group were running hideously late we were in no way pressured to order, in fact she kept us up to speed as to the kitched and the latest we could order which was very welcome and took the stress out of waiting. Food was superb - I had the 28 day hung steak which was divine, my only complaint being that it could've been a lot bigger - but was superb and very tasty. No complaints from the group - all enjoyed their food and we had a most wonderful evening and will certainly go back.
