Afternoon Tea @ The Ritz

Go during Christmas - when the Palm Court is all decorated with gorgeous pinks and gold trees and decorations. Stunning.. We went yesterday - and really enjoyed the experience. It was my Aunt's 80th birthday and the pianist played a discrete happy birthday.. Yes the sandwiches were slightly stale in some instances, and the pastries probably better at the Wolsely (where they let you take them away too!) - but for the quintessential British experience - you can't beat it.. The toilets are great - the service is great - the food is fine .. but you're coming for the ambience and the feel and you get that in abundance.. everyone should do this at least once in their life..

What a pity.. The food here was superb - tasty and fresh and well put together.. But the service was sloppy and uncaring on the night we were there.. Worth a visit - and if we weren't leaving I'd probably give it the benefit of the doubt and try one more time.. There are some other great restaurants in the area though (Emiles in Putney for example) so if the benefit of the doubt doesn't work - I'd try elsewhere.

Harvey Nichols Fifth Floor Restaurant

There's a new chef .. and the food is fantastic.. elegantly presented - innovatively put together - amazing fusion of taste/freshness and flavours.. Great wine list .. Fantastic service.. Yes it's expensive - it cost us £80 a head .. but for a post shopping treat with the girls - a great way to spend a couple of hours.. Only complaint is the shabby toilets - slightly spoils the mood.. Otherwise brilliant brilliant..
